Book description

This book is a poetry book where I express myself in many ways which I discovered them and myself during the writing process of this book.
I titled this book Sorrowful Nights because when I was writing it there were many sorrowful nights that were tormenting me mostly at nights during difficult times in 2019 to 2020.
There are 49 poems that resonate with on different levels, some of these poems reveal my vulnerability that is a combination of everything I felt at that time and my craziness contributed to the writing process of my poems.
I hope people will enjoy reading this book because I poured my heart, soul and everything that is in me to write this poetry book. I want this book to attract everyone especially young people to read my poetry book with excitement and to see themselves while they are reading it.

AUTHOR’S NOTE

My name is Sibabalwe Mkunqwana from Mdantsane Township, East London, South Africa. I am 27 years old and I’m living with disability. I live with my mother Mrs Mirriam Mkunqwana and my nephew Lambano Mkunqwana. I started to go to school at the age of 10 years old in 2007 to 2019 at Vukuhambe Special School in East London.

My journey of writing poetry started in 2012 at the age of 16 years old and I was inspired by Lebo Mashile my role model. I used to watch her on T.V in 2005 performing her poetry. I was doubting myself and my craft because I have a speech impairment and I’m in a wheelchair so how should I recite or perform my poems in front of people.
Years went by I stopped writing poetry and focused on my academics until 2019 I decided to start writing poetry again.
IN 2020 – I was awarded with Special Awards by minister of education Angie Motshekga as one of the Top Achievers of the class of 2019 national and provincial
In 2020 – I was awarded by MEC of Education in Eastern Cape Mr Fundile Gade
In 2021 I was given an opportunity to do a community project as a part of Mr/Miss ABLE pageant, I partnership with World Of Art Movement to help me to host my first poetry session called The POETRY EXPERIENCE that showcased my talent and other poets. The poetry session was my big break and I’m grateful for it. I was crowned as Miss ABLE South Africa 2021.
In 2021 – I participated in the programme called “Activated” for people who are living with disabilities, people telling my story on SABC 2. Lebo Mashile recited my poem at the end of the programme.
“Come challenges, I will always win” is my motto.
